In Children’s House, our bilingual team of specifically AMI trained Montessori guides introduces scientifically developed educational material, allowing the children to work by themselves and develop autonomy. 3 to 6 year old children are naturally attracted to the activities we offer, which allow them to experiment and develop according to their needs, in what Dr. Montessori called self-construction. This directs our approach in guiding the children in a prepared environment emphasizing order, beauty & simplicity.
Our two AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) trained educators with the aid of an assistant, work in tandem. Throughout the day one addresses the children in English & the other in French. The class environment also provides material in both languages.
The child manipulates the Montessori material every day and following his/her own rhythm. The child engages in Montessori exercises enabling him/her to develop independence, concentration and refined movement. Each material has been studied to allow for progressive learning.
The Montessori Guide introduces the exercises to the child by giving a presentation. This can be done either individually, or in a small group, depending on the particular material. Observation enables the Montessori Guide to know the child better in order to present appropriate activities, at the optimum moment, in response to the child’s needs. When this is accomplished learning takes place with great joy and ease.
Parent – Montessori Guide Conferences are organized once per semester. This enables a personal communication between the child’s educators (Montessori Guide) and the parents. Parents, or the Guides, may request other meetings during the school year.
We also organize several Parent Support Meetings which encourage sharing knowledge and discussion between our pedagogical team and our parent community. The topics range from Montessori related themes such as class organization, Montessori material, to more theoretical subjects, and other educational themes. We sometimes invite outside experts to present during these meetings.
