Our School

“The child has a mind able to absorb knowledge. He has the power to teach himself.”

School History

Our school was founded in 2016 by a group of founding sponsors, and a team of dedicated educators. Together they have created a school built on a common desire to implement the exigent demands of Dr. Maria Montessori’s pedagogy in a community based on the idea of coeducation with parents.

Educational Mission

The child is at the center of our educational mission. We strive to guide each child with his/her own intellectual, physical, social and emotional development with respect and dignity.  This consequently leads the child to their fullest potential.

The Montessori School rue Papin is a bilingual school for children from 3 to 12 years of age.  Our school implements Dr. Montessori’s scientific pedagogy to guide all children in an inclusive environment.  We aim to allow each child to flourish both physically and intellectually as an independent being. We encourage each child’s sense of curiosity, wonder, and the desire to work independently.  In doing so the child will continue to learn and explore new fields of knowledge with enthusiasm.

Each member of our educational team holds a diploma from the Association Montessori International (AMI).  The Montessori approach to education is not only a pedagogy, and a method, but an intelligent educational answer which is in harmony with the natural laws of development as described by Dr. Maria Montessori.

We apply Doctor Maria Montessori’s scientific pedagogy with care.  We help and guide the child in their global development while respecting his/her individuality and his/her own rhythm, along the following fundamental principles :

  • Prepared environments, conceived for each plane of development as an answer to the specific needs of both the child and the group.
  • Scientifically elaborated material, tools appropriate to accompany and support the child’s self-construction.
  • A bilingual and multicultural environment, with a view towards the rest of the world, the Universe and each child’s culture.
  • A framework giving the child opportunities to experiment and develop his/her abilities for self-discipline, independence, liberty, responsibility, creation and adaptation.
  • Learning how to live together, developing civility and respect, cooperation, and mutual aid. Supporting the development of a social being, a community member, without judgment.
  • A climate of trust and benevolence.
  • A constructive collaboration with parents, based on the fundamental idea of coeducation.

Children’s House “Help me help myself ”

This age group corresponds to a specific stage of development which has been precisely defined by Dr. Maria Montessori. The 3 to 6 year old child is naturally attracted to the exercises  organized in a prepared environment which allow him/her to develop in what Dr. Montessori called self construction.

We offer a prepared environment which includes order, beauty and simplicity coupled with specifically trained Montessori guides and scientifically developed educational material, allowing  the child to work independently, responding to his/her needs.

What we do

The child manipulates the Montessori material every day and following his/her own rhythm.   The child engages in Montessori exercises enabling him/her to develop  independence, concentration and refined movement. Each material has been studied to allow for  progressive learning.

The Montessori Guide introduces the exercises to the child by giving a presentation.  This can be done either individually, or in a small group, depending on the particular material.  Observation enables the Montessori Guide to know the child better in order to present appropriate activities, at the optimum moment, in response to the child’s needs. When this is accomplished learning takes place with great joy and ease.

Parent Communication : Parent – Montessori Guide Conferences are organized once per semester.  This enables a personal communication between the  child’s educators (Montessori Guide) and the parents.  Parents, or the Guides, may request other meetings during the school year.  We also organize several Parent Support Meetings which encourage sharing knowledge and discussion between our pedagogical team and our parent community.  The topics range from Montessori related themes such as class organization,  Montessori material, to more theoretical subjects, and other educational themes.  We sometimes invite outside experts to these meetings.

Elementary : “Help me to think for myself”

In this second Plane of Development the child develops his/her reasoning skills, imagination and capacity for abstraction. The child is developing their social personality as well as a sense of justice and equity.

What we do :

The child between 6 and 12 years of age continues to develop his/her physical and psychological independence as well as logical reasoning, concentration and dexterity.  The scientifically developed Montessori material which is presented either individually, or in a group, guides the child  to develop their reasoning skills and move towards abstract thinking in a natural way.

The Elementary environment offers several interrelated disciplines: Language, Mathematics (including Geometry and Measurement), History, Geography, Science (including  Biology), Art and Music. The Montessori Elementary Guide observes the child and introduces different concepts based on the child’s needs and interests in according to the characteristics of the 6 to 12 year old child. The Montessori Guide inspires and encourages each child to be responsible for his/her own work.

Group work is greatly developed in our Elementary community.  A spirit of cooperation and responsibility by all members of the community is encouraged.  The older children are able to share their experiences with the younger children through work, and daily class meetings.
